Effects of drugs on the pregnancy (Unborn child)

Women smoking while pregnant has been an uncomfortable reality for decades. Whatever the reason – whether a lack of concern about the risk, belief it’s too hard to quit or even reports that a resultant smaller baby will make for an “easier” birth – the reality is that a small baby that was meant to be bigger is at risk of stillbirth, cot death, future heart disease and shortened life span.

A portion of everything that a pregnant woman consumes goes towards the nourishment and development of the fetus. As a result, anytime she uses drugs, her body sends some of these chemicals to the fetus.

Exposure to marijuana and alcohol before birth has been proven to cause behavior problems in early childhood.

Taking drugs during pregnancy also increases the chance of birth defects, premature babies, underweight babies, and stillborn births.

These drugs can also affect the child’s memory and attentiveness.

The wise thing to do is to abstain from doing drugs. Talk to a counselor who can help you get out of it or if you k ow someone who needs help, Call CADAM today on 0817 103 9895. We are waiting to hear from you
